How does Harper Lee satirise the White community?

In chapter 22 we see peoples main focus after the court case that sentenced Tom Robinson to prison. we see that the towns folk cared more about where Jem,Dill, and scout were sitting this shows how harper lee makes the town feel more inclined to gossip more that anything else. another case is while the children are playing and they spot the adults discussing when they walk towards them Mrs Stephanie Crawford was overly eager to tell of how their father was spat on by Mr Ewell. Harper Lee shows how this humble town fed off the gossip of others.Even further through the book, we see  once again when the town finds out of the death of Tom Robinson in the prison “Maycomb was interested by the news of Tom’s death for perhaps two days; two days was enough for the information to spread through the country.”

However, the other side of the county the black community showed a different side to the face of Maycomb. this is first seen the day after Tom’s sentencing when the family of Tom sent so much food to the Finches for their hard work. Even though everyone knew Tom wouldn’t be acquitted they still where grateful for knowing that Atticus gave it his all and that was good enough for them.

    Nehemiah,

You have shown good insight and understanding in this answer.

Targets: I think you need to fix the way you word some of your sentences. Eg “the other side of the fence to Maycomb.”

You need to back up your point with a quotation in your second paragraph and if possible zoom in on it.
